AEROPLIO Theatre will present and put forward a special performance this year.

What lies hidden in the attic of our house? A mysterious place, and that is why it is enchanting.

That is what Filio and Anneta wondered, and one day they decided to conquer the mysterious world of the attic in their house. The keys were found and taken down from the nail they hung on, everyone fell asleep, the house went quiet. Now is the right moment. On tiptoe, so that nobody hears them, they climb the creaking wooden stairs and enter the magical world of the attic. Right in the middle stands a trunk. What could be inside? They open it and find the box with their grandmother’s photographs, her diary and a pile of fairy-tale books. As they leaf through the diary and look at the photographs, their grandmother appears and tells them the whole fairy tale of her life. How they lived in Smyrna and how they left in 1922. How they reached Greece and how they finally put down roots here. How they worked and how they prospered. And all of it… through fairy tales. Because Grandma doesn’t talk the way the rest of us do. When she wants to say something, she says it with fairy tales, and she knows a great many of them.

Old, yellowed photographs, full of nostalgia for the lost homelands. A diary full of history and a pile of fairy tales make the world different for the two girls, and also for the young (and – why not – the grown-up) members of the audience.

Steering clear of television formulas, and clear too of the clichés and worn-out stories imposed by passing fashions, AEROPLIO insists on drawing from Greek tradition and history.

The performance is a tender story, with comic and moving moments. The actors will use everything imaginable to create a magical world.
