Santa Goes on a Diet

Red alert in Santa’s workshop! The presents are ready. The elves are rushing about. Rudolf is waiting. The children have sent their letters. And Santa? Santa has decided to become… a MODEL.

Yes. A model.

A few days before Christmas, instead of checking the sacks of presents, he’s looking at himself in the mirror. Instead of trying out the sleigh, he’s trying out poses. Instead of his famous ‘Ho! Ho! Ho!’ he’s practising walking the catwalk. And he’s got so carried away with his new career that he’s even forgotten to eat properly.

Mrs Claus chases after him with plates, ladles and every Christmas treat you could possibly imagine. And him? He won’t budge. He has a photo shoot! He has a fitting! He has a career! He has… Christmas, but he seems to have forgotten about that. And now there’s a real problem. Santa is tired, he has no energy, and even the huge sack of presents doesn’t look so easy to lift any more. What kind of Christmas will we have if Santa can’t even manage his own sack?

And as if that weren’t enough, somewhere nearby a snowman is wandering about with a very serious personal problem of his own. He’s in love. Who with? With… the heat. Which is extremely worrying when you’re made of snow. He’s fond of radiators. He dreams of fireplaces. He gazes at the sun with eyes full of love. Everyone tries to explain to him that this relationship is unlikely to end well. He won’t listen to anyone.

Luckily, there’s Rudolf. And Rudolf has a plan. A sly, sweet-smelling and utterly Christmassy plan. Since Santa refuses to sit down at the table, the table will travel to Santa! And so begins an amazing festive journey through the Christmas flavours of the world. From Italy comes a light, fluffy panettone. From Germany comes the traditional stollen. From Mexico, festive buñuelos appear. And of course Greece couldn’t be left out: melomakarona, kourabiedes and christopsomo make a triumphant entrance into Rudolf’s great Christmas operation.

The only thing is, Santa needs to be won over too. And that’s where the children come in. Will Rudolf manage to outwit the most stubborn Santa Christmas has ever known? Will the presents make it onto the sleigh in time? Will the snowman finally stop flirting with the radiator? And will Santa realise that, to reach millions of children in a single night, what he needs first of all is energy, good cheer and good company?

Out of this crazy Christmas story unfolds an original musical with lots of humour, music, dance, festive songs, colourful costumes and the children joining in all the way through. From the very first moment the children step inside the story. They help Rudolf with his plan, sing with the actors, join in the game and, for a while, become members of the strangest Christmas rescue team ever put together. Along the way, through the adventure and without any lecturing, they discover different Christmas customs and flavours from other countries. Christmas becomes one big journey: from Italy to Germany, from Mexico to Greece and from there… straight to the North Pole.

The performance has been designed especially for the festive season and can be the main Christmas event of a school, an association, a municipality, a cultural venue or a company party for children. The set, the costumes, the music and the whole world of the performance travel with the actors, so that your own venue is transformed, for a while, into a Christmas stage.

And in the end? We hope the presents are on the sleigh. That the snowman has been moved away from the radiator. That Santa has got his energy back. And, above all, that everyone makes it to Christmas in time. Because this year Christmas was in serious danger. And it all started the moment Santa looked in the mirror and said: ‘What if I became a model?’
