Our Myths, the Stars upon Our Sky

Look up. The stars aren’t just bright dots in the night sky. They have names, stories, adventures. And many of those stories begin in Greek mythology. Hercules, Perseus, Andromeda, Pegasus, Cassiopeia come down from the sky for a while and become heroes once again, in a theatrical story full of action, humour, music and play. How did they end up among the stars? Who sent them up there? And why, thousands of years later, do we still recognise their names when we look at the sky?

‘Our Myths, the Stars upon Our Sky’ is an interactive performance by Aeroplio that brings children closer to Greek mythology through theatre. The myths aren’t presented as a lesson, or as something distant that we simply have to remember. They come to life on stage and turn into play, pictures, storytelling and adventure. The children take part, answer, help the heroes, make their own discoveries and connect the stories they hear with the constellations they can look for later in the real sky.

A performance that starts from a very old human habit: looking at the stars and trying to give them names and stories. Because before they became constellations, they were myths. And before they became myths, perhaps they were simply people’s need to look up and imagine.
